Solid tumors are comprised of a variety of cell types that affect tumor growth and treatment success. Bulk RNA sequencing of tumors masks the unique gene expression profiles of individual cells, allowing researchers to overlook rare but interesting subpopulations of malignant cells. Using single-cell RNA-sequencing, researchers can begin to tease apart different cell types’ contributions to cancer progression and treatment resistance.
