The adaptive immune system can have beneficial and detrimental effects on the central nervous system (CNS), causing mild cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease. Immune profiling provides valuable insights into underlying disease mechanisms and the impact of unique immune cell signatures in neurodegeneration. Researchers use single cell immune profiling to investigate gene expression and immune repertoire changes in the CNS, including antigen-specific clonal expansion of CD8+ T cells.
