Chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) offer a revolutionary breakthrough in the fight against cancer. To create CAR T cells, researchers harvest immune cells and modify their genomes to enable them to specifically target and kill cancer cells. CAR T cells are especially potent; even a small dose can destroy a large tumor burden.
